About the Grapes

Since 1993, most of our grapes have been sourced from the Antinori Family Estate at the end of Soda Canyon Road on the eastern side of the Napa Valley. This property ranges from 1,450 to 1,700 feet in elevation and is comprised of 1,200 acres of which nearly 600 acres are planted to vines. The varietals planted on the property include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

The estate, a former cattle ranch, was purchased by the Antinori family in the 1980's. The family started planting grapes within a few years and quickly began selling them throughout the Napa Valley. They also built a small winery on the property which is now called Antica Napa Valley.

This particular property is perfectly situated, with the elevation helping it to avoid much of the heat from the valley floor during the day and the fog during summer nights. Additionally, the soils are thin and rocky, which helps keep the growth of the vines in check. The result is longer, slower ripening of the fruit which keeps the acid, tannin and flavors in perfect balance.

It is also why cool-loving grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can be grown right next to heat-loving grapes such as Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.

We have been sourcing our Zinfandel grapes from the Teldeschi Home Ranch Vineyard since 1995.  Located on the eastern “bench” of the Dry Creek Valley this vineyard consists almost entirely of 40+ year old vines, some of which are head trained.  This 25 acre property has been dry farmed by the Teldeschi family for three generations and produces consistently high quality fruit which is used by the family winery as well as sold to wineries through out the valley.
