The results are in from the 2013 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Trojak Knier Winery is proud to announce that our 2010 Chardonnay and our 2010 Sangiovese were both awarded a Silver Medal. We are even more pleased to announce that our 2010 Pinot Noir was awarded a Double Gold! That goes along with the Double Gold Medal that our 2009 Cabernet won at the San Francisco International Wine Competition which was held last June. We have also just entered several of our 2011 wines in the San Francisco International Wine Competition which will be held this June. Look for the results soon.

2010 Chardonnay
Origin: Atlas Peak District, Napa Valley, Antinori Napa Valley Family Estate named Antica Napa Valley.
Alcohol: 13.5%
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Production: 75 cases
Vineyard: Chardonnay grapes are from the Reserve vineyard, ten acres in size. The vineyard is planted at an elevation of 1420 feet, in the volcanic soil series Aiken Loam. It is planted at a vine density of 1815 vines per acre and divided equally among five distinct Chardonnay clones that contribute to the wine's complexity through the clonal diversity. Clones Dijon 96, Dijon 76, and Weimer Burgundian Selection provide for the complexity in flavors while clones Prosser 15 and Martini 4 provide the natural acidity that brings balance and a mineral character to the wine.
Tasting notes: Trojak-Knier 2010 Five Clones Block Chardonnay, Napa Valley: Enticingly expressive and Burgundian in style with its minerality and Asian pear notes on the nose. This mouth-watering Chardonnay drenches the palate with delicious flavors of sautéed, spicy apples, buttered toast, and Bosc pears flecked with citrus. 2011 Dry Creek Zinfandel

Origin: Dry Creek Valley, Teldeschi Home Ranch.
Alcohol: 15.4%
Grapes: 80% Zinfandel, 10% Carignane, 10% Petit Sirah
Production: 53 cases
Vineyard: Located on the eastern “bench” of the Dry Creek Valley this vineyard consists almost entirely of 40 year old vines, some of which are head trained. This 25 acre property has been dry farmed by the Teldeschi family for three generations and produces consistently high quality fruit which is used by the family winery as well as sold to wineries through out the valley.
Tasting notes: Pleasing floral aromas and succulent red and black fruits are confidently showcased with this zesty example of California's sweetheart grape. A touch of eucalyptus in the forefront leads to gobs of ripe plums, black cherries and wild berries threaded with fragrant baking spices lusciously saturating the palate. This Zin is beautifully balanced and juicy with a hint of mint on the fruit laden, lip-smacking finish. - Ellen Landis, CS, CSW
